UC Launches New IT Degrees

Designed in close collaboration with industry, UC has launched a new suite of IT degrees, helping students secure a career in one of Australia’s most in-demand industries. Our new degrees put students at the forefront of emerging digital technology and trends with specialisations in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things, Cybersecurity and Data Science. Through out comprehensive Work Integrated Learning program, students will connect with industry leaders and gain real world experience to help maximise their employability, form industry connections and ensure they graduate ahead of the pack.

Faculty of Arts & Design: UC Design Competition

A Competition for Creative College Students 
(previously known as the Dean’s College Design Competition)

The Faculty of Arts & Design invites all ACT & NSW College students (Years 11 & 12) to enter our annual Design Competition. Submit your best work - a school project or your own creative piece - in one or more of the categories below and you could win a $6,000 Faculty scholarship.

Cash prizes for winners of each category and a People's Choice Award for the 'most voted' entry will also be awarded. Winners will be announced at the Faculty of Arts and Design End of Year Student Exhibition in November. Submissions now open.

Arts & Design: Fly-In/Fly-Out Program

Guest Lecture and Workshop Series (in-school Guest Lectures/University Workshops to ACT and surrounding regions only). 

Faculty of Arts and Design Academics have been busy developing workshops and lectures for your students to enjoy. You will be able to register for a pre-packaged activity to be delivered by an expert academic at your school from the 22nd July – 2nd August.

The following activities are already available, with plenty more to come:

  • Creative Lighting: design your own light as a sampler of our Industrial Design course.
  • Everyday Design: the importance of design in everyday life and how multifaceted the role of a designer is (exploring Visual Communication Design, Interaction Design and Industrial Design degrees).
  • Short Film Screenplay: gain an understanding of the short film pre-production process and work in groups to present a scenario for a 7-10-minute short film.

UnCover Event: The human cost of robots. 
Thursday 20 June, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join University of Canberra experts and a moderating media personality for a casual conversation on “the human cost of robots”.

There is no denying that as the line between humans and technology blurs, machines are becoming more and more human-like. So what will the future look like exactly? Are we obsolete in a time of robots and what are the ethics when it comes to AI? Join a software engineer, a robotics specialist, a journalist of the digital age, and a lawyer examining the legal ramifications of AI.

Widening Participation Team

Drawing upon collaborative experience, research, knowledge and best practice, Widening Participation offers a wide range of programs to build academic capacity, increase awareness of, and enhance access to higher education for individuals and groups traditionally under-represented in higher education including those from:

·         A rural and/or regional background;

·         An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background;

·         A financially disadvantaged background; and/or

·         A background of littler or no family experience of higher education.

Widening Participation’s outreach initiatives are externally funded through the Commonwealth Government’s Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) and provided free of charge for schools meeting the eligibility criteria.

The Widening Participation team, including current UC students, works in partnership with internal and external partners, including participating schools, communities and organisations across the ACT and NSW.

Programs include:

  •         On campus experience days;
  •         In-class sessions;
  •         Camps & Residential University Experience Programs;
  •         Online modules
